Thanks for checking in on our blogs. Welcome back, or if you are a first timer, a big “HELLO” from North Central Phoenix.
Because pain is one of the most common reasons people go see their doctors, I used to do a lot of rehab and sports med for my patients. I found PRP to work exceptionally well at not just reducing pain, but rehabbing joints so they worked better.
PRP is platelet rich plasma. It comes from your blood. PRP is the use of stem cells. Most cells can only give rise to the same cell. So, a heart cell can only become another heart cell and a muscle cell can only become another muscle cell. The unique thing about stem cells is they can turn into different types of cells. What stem cells turn into is based on what needs to happen in the area they are placed. So, if you have lost cartilage in your knee and I placed your stem cells there, they would morph into the cells that produce cartilage. It’s just so perfect!
It’s no surprise PRP quickly made its way into the aesthetic world. As I heard about its applications for aesthetics, I felt like I was reuniting with an old friend…an amazingly powerful old friend. Most people have heard of the Vampire lift. This is PRP used to rejuvenate the face, but there are so many other uses:
- Rejuvenation of skin anywhere...neck, arms, tummies
- Rejuvenation of the sensory areas of reproductive organs for men or women, increasing sexual perception and function
- Hair growth
- Tear troughs
PRP is one of the best and safest approaches to filling tear troughs, the linear indentations below the eyes that concern some patients. PRP has replaced the use of fillers in this area. Fillers can have a rare, but potentially very dangerous, side effect of causing blindness if used in this area.
Platelets are a component of the blood that helps with clotting. To develop PRP solution, we take a small amount of your blood and extract the platelets. We then reinfuse the PRP solution into your skin. There are several ways to do that but radio frequency (RF) micro-needling or nano-fractional ablation is the most effective and most comfortable way to get the solution into the skin. This is the method we use for Tribella, our 3-part full skin rejuvenation procedure, and for PRP to treat hair loss or thinning.
If you are interested in doing PRP for joint rehab or any aesthetic reason, reach out and we will be happy to discuss the best options for you.
Next time we will be talking about the synergistic approach we take with many of the procedures at
krch Aesthetic Medicine, including our “Fire and Ice” approach to body sculpting, which combines CoolSculpting for permanent fat reduction and radio frequency for skin tightening over the reduced area.
