PRP Therapy
Ryan Krch NMD, a Phoenix, AZ doctor, is excited to provide platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) at Krch AESTHETIC MEDICINE to help refresh your appearance. PRP therapy is one of the most popular and innovative anti-aging procedures because of its natural method and amazing results. The procedure uses stem-cell elements of your blood to stimulate your skin, minimizing wrinkles and tightening skin. It can also help improve skin thickness, tone and volume. For more information about PRP therapy, contact Krch AESTHETIC MEDICINE in Phoenix, AZ to schedule a free consult. Dr. Ryan is excited to discuss all the benefits of PRP and how it can help to improve your skin. He first started using PRP therapy in sports medicine applications over 15 years ago to regenerate cartilage and ligaments in knees and shoulders.
Ideal candidates for PRP Therapy
The ideal PRP patient is someone looking to improve skin appearance with a natural effect that evolves over a 90 day period. Patients who have wrinkles, uneven skin tone, sagging skin, and volume loss are typically great candidates for PRP therapy. Let us know if you have any blood disorders, skin conditions, or anemia to determine whether it is safe for you to receive PRP therapy.
PRP Therapy Procedure Technique
Once you are seated comfortably in one of our private treatment rooms, a small amount of blood will be drawn and placed in a centrifuge. In 20 minutes, the different components of the blood will be separated. Platelets are a component of the blood and what primarily makes up PRP or platelet-rich plasma. Platelets acts as stem cells and become a modified cell when they are placed back in our skin. When we inject platelets into a knee with a torn ligament or lacking cartilage it helps repair the ligament or grow cartilage. When we place it in the scalp it can help grow new hair follicles (see our hair procedures). In the skin, platelets become fibroblasts, cells that grow collagen and other structural elements of the skin we lose over time or from stress. We inject the PRP under the eyes to tighten skin or to increase cheek size. We can infuse PRP in any area but primarily the face to add structure reducing sagging and to decrease wrinkles, and increase skin thickness. Radio frequency (RF) micro-needling is currently the best way to get PRP concentrated in the skin and scalp. We combine PRP with RF microneedling to rejuvenate skin and grow new hair on the scalp.
What to expect from your PRP Therapy Treatment
Platelet-rich plasma promotes the production of elastin and collagen naturally to create younger and tighter-looking skin. Because it utilizes your own blood, the risk of allergic or adverse reactions is virtually eliminated. You should expect your face to be a little red after the procedure from the RF microneedling and localized inflammation. This is good as it is part of the rejuvenation process. Some bruising can be seen when it is injected under the eyes. A cold pack can be applied to the treatment site to reduce discomfort or minor swelling and you can take Tylenol to reduce pain which is rare. Do not take any other pain meds. We recommend you receive treatments every 4 weeks for 3 months.

Frequently Asked Questions for PRP Therapy
How much does PRP Therapy cost?
Dr. Ryan will discuss all of your treatment steps and options at your consultation and provide you with a cost estimate, as well as any payment options. PRP therapy costs typically vary according to the treatment area, number of treatments, and any other procedures it may be combined with. Eyes can be done for as little as $350 and is combined with radio frequency (RF) to tighten skin and reduce dark circles.
How long can I expect my PRP therapy results to last?
The duration of the results of PRP therapy can be a bit different with each patient and are also dependent on the treatment area. Peak effect of PRP is usually seen 90 days after the procedure and can last up to a year. We strongly recommend a series of 3 treatments every 30 days to really stimulate the skin and return it to a stronger more youthful state. This procedure is more affordable than surgery but with little downtime and is much more comfortable. We will recommend maintenance procedures every 3 – 6 months depending on your age and skin health.
Are there any risks or complications with PRP therapy?
Because your own blood is used in PRP therapy, the risks of the procedure are extremely minor and include only temporary bruising and swelling. Some areas are treated by injections (under the eyes) so it’s very important to have it done by a skilled practitioner like Dr. Ryan, who is highly experienced with the process.
Can PRP be used as a filler?
PRP can be used like a filler but does not work in the same way as a dermal filler. With PRP therapy, your results will evolve and increase over time, as the PRP stimulates your skin and promotes its production of elastin and collagen. Dr. Ryan uses PRP therapy as a safer alternative to fillers and for those who want subtle, natural-looking changes over time.
Is there any pain involved in PRP therapy?
Most patients only feel slight discomfort with either the injections or RF microneedling. We give most patients a topical anesthetic (lidocaine) to reduce discomfort.
