What causes hair loss?
When it comes to hair loss, you're not alone. In the United States, more than half of men over the age of 40 are affected by hair loss, whether due to genetics, hormones, or an underlying illness. The majority of these cases result in male pattern baldness, a form of hair loss that occurs as hair follicles succumb to the effects of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. Over time, DHT binds to certain hair follicles and causes them to shrink, making hair finer, thinner and weaker each time it grows back. This leads to a gradual loss of hair that usually affects the temples and crown of the head, creating the distinct signs of male pattern baldness. NeoGrafting makes hair transplantation a more streamlined experience, but your procedure will last several hours depending on the number of grafts being transplanted and the extent of your hair loss. Dr. Krch will discuss these considerations with you during your consultation and set expectations for your results, including the amount of coverage you will have and the shape of your hairline. On the day of your appointment, your procedure will consist of two phases — harvesting and transplanting. First, Dr. Krch and his NeoGraft® team will use the NeoGraft® device to extract healthy donor follicles from areas not affected by hair loss. NeoGraft's® advanced extraction tool can accomplish this with minimal impact to the scalp, increasing the number of viable donor follicles for enhanced results. No incisions are made, but Dr. Krch will apply a local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort you may feel. After a sufficient amount of donor follicles have been harvested, Dr. Krch and his NeoGraft® team will prepare your scalp for transplantation. They will then individually place the healthy follicles into targeted areas, distributing them evenly to mimic natural hair growth and provide full coverage. To ensure the possible results, Dr. Krch recommends platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments with every hair transplant procedure. PRP therapy has been shown to reduce recovery times and drastically increase the survival rate of transplanted hair, using growth factors derived from your plasma to stimulate hair follicle regeneration and healing.
